Election Observation
If you vote in person on Election Day, you may see one of our nonpartisan election observers at your polling site. We deploy these volunteers to check the conditions at the polls, report any issues, and later make recommendations to improve our elections.
Become an Observer
Help us monitor North Dakota's elections! Our volunteers are trained, observe at the polls for a few hours on Election Day, and then submit a report of observations via an online form. The only requirement is that you're not a candidate for office. We'd love to have you join us!

Email us at nodaklwv@gmail.com to observe the next election in 2026.
We piloted a statewide election observation program in 2024. Click here to learn how it went!
Election Protection
If you have questions or issues when you vote, you can call the Election Protection Hotline. They have trained nonpartisan volunteers ready to answer your questions and help you vote.

History of the Program
In the June 2022 Primary Election, members of Cass County's new American community reported voter suppression issues, so the League of Women Voters of the Red River Valley, the ACLU of ND, and ND Voices Network partnered to coordinate an election observation program for the November 2022 General Election.

In October 2022, the ND Attorney General issued an opinion that poll workers could not ask voters to prove their citizenship at the polls, which helped prevent the voter suppression issue in the General Election. The election observation program continued as a look at Cass County's voting process as a whole. Read the 2022 post-election report.

In 2024, the League of Women Voters of North Dakota piloted a statewide observation program to report issues on Election Day and improve our election process statewide. We plan to continue coordinating and growing the program for future elections.
