Key Issues
In 2016, the League of Women Voters launched the League-wide Campaign for Making Democracy Work. The campaign includes ensuring a free, fair, and accessible electoral system for all eligible voters by focusing on the below key issue areas.
Voting Rights
Voting is a fundamental right and all eligible voters should have the equal opportunity to exercise that right. The League is dedicated to ensuring that every eligible voter has the freedom to vote.
Improving Elections
Everyone deserves access to and information about the votes that will shape their communities. We work to improve elections through our voter engagement programs like candidate forums and voter guides on VOTE411.org.
Money in Politics
Elections should be about the voters not big money interests. It’s time to limit SuperPACs and secret donors to protect representative democracy.
Redistricting
Congressional districts and government legislative bodies should be apportioned substantially on population. We oppose partisan and racial gerrymandering that strips rights away from voters.
Direct Election of the President by Popular Vote
The League believes that the direct-popular-vote method for electing the President and Vice President is essential to representative government; therefore, the League believes the Electoral College should be abolished. Sign up for updates.
