First Friday: Redistricting - How it Affects Your Vote

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2021 AT 12 PM CDT
Kringen Lodge 25 Sons of Norway

Redistricting is a process that occurs every 10 years after new Census data is released. It is the redrawing of the districts that make up the legislative maps in a state.

Historically, politicians from all parties have manipulated the redistricting process to expand or protect their own power—often to the detriment of the minority political party and marginalized populations. This manipulation is called gerrymandering.

Our speakers will present information on the redistricting process for both North Dakota and Minnesota and ways that you can advocate for equitable maps in your state.

We will meet in the ballroom at the back of the Sons of Norway to allow room for social distancing.

This event is free and open to the public.

First Fridays to Return!
Beginning September 2021

We will return to First Fridays at the Sons of Norway Lodge, 722 2nd Avenue N, Fargo in September. Topics to be announced. These meeting will also be broadcast live on LWVRRV Facebook page.

Annual Meeting
March 20, 2021

We will hold our annual meeting virtually on Saturday, March 20th at 9:30AM. Look for your invitation in the mail by the end of February!

Call to Action

Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) Resolution

The ERA ensures equal legal rights for all, regardless of sex. The ND Senate has introduced SCR (Senate Concurrent Resolution) 4010, which states that the ratification of the 1972 ERA by the 44th ND Legislative Assembly was only valid through March 22nd, 1979. The League of Women Voters has pushed for the ratification of the ERA since it first passed Congress in 1972. We ask members in North Dakota to contact their State Senators and urge them to vote no on SCR 4010. Find out more about the ERA here.
